After competing with 300 student martial artists, PD team succeeded in winning 5 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 10 bronze medals in IPSI championship for students in Yogyakarta. The event was held on 16-18 May 2008, at Gabusan Sports Ground, Yogyakarta. This event was held as a qualification phase for regional student championship (Yogyakarta and Central Java) that will be held on May 19th, 2008 at Tennis Indoor stadium, UNY, Yogyakarta.
The gold medals
were won by martial artists under coaches: Endah Irianti, Markaban,
Bambang Johni and Bambang Eddy. 'We are grateful for the result that PD
still dominate the finals and won 5 medals. The competition was very
tight due to the huge number of contestants in this event', said coach
Endah after the event.
Meanwhile, Galih (blue stripe), a PD coach from Yogyakarta and Sleman
said that the skills of the contestants during the event were vary.
Some contestants seemed that they just started to learn silat for a few
months while some others had a long experience in similar
championships. Until it came to semi final, we can see the rest
contestants had equal silat skills and it made the competition became
more interesting.
During the regional championship on 19th of May 2008, there will be 167
silat practiotioners competing each other. They are coming from
Yogyakarta and Central Java. Unfortunately, only a few PD team from
Central Java will join this title. This is due to many PD classes did
not receive the invitation to join this championship event.
'I checked the contestants for regional title and I found out that a
lot of PD practitioners joined for Banjarnegara team. Actually we are
hoping that there are a lot more PD practitioners from Semarang and
Solo. Unfortunately, there isn't. This is because a lot of PD
organizations in Central Java region did not receive the invitation for
the championship', said Galih. (*)
